Market Square Atmosphere Comes to the New Forest Show

The New Forest Food Experience area at The New Forest and Hampshire County Show proved so successful last year that it has now been expanded and provided with a new larger site in the livestock section between the cattle and sheep lines. This sees the com

Visitors will be captivated by the exciting feel of the hustle and bustle of a farmers market, with ‘roaming mics’ interacting between stalls. Adding to the atmosphere will be the mouth watering smells wafting from the demonstration cooking stands, manned by local hotel chefs. Whilst you nibble on some local tasty treats the four different marquees offer handy shade from the summer sun. Other activities will be the very realistic mock auctions held by a top auctioneer, where you can take part in the ‘pretend’ auctioning of pigs and piglets.

Many of the exhibitors have been awarded the highly sought after New Forest Marque. This is given to producers of quality produce, which has been grown, reared, caught, brewed or produced in the historic landscape of New Forest. You can buy with confidence knowing that produce displaying the New Forest Marque meets high standards of production and animal welfare. By choosing New Forest Marque produce you are directly supporting the New Forest, its historic landscapes, rich wildlife and traditional farming community.

There are too many stands here to mention them all but to give a flavour of the delights you will find, here are a few. The Chilli Jam Company, who specialise in handmade chilli based products, will be bringing their award winning Pica Chilli Lilli to the show. This modern version of the old favourite piccalilli, which is free from artificial colourings and preservative, is crisp, crunchy and slightly sweet with green chillies to give it a kick.

Other well known exhibitors are Hedge End Butchers who won the Hampshire Supreme Sausage Champion with their New Forest Pork sausages. For those with a sweeter tooth Burley Fudge, also holders of the New Forest Marque, will be bringing a wide range of flavoured fudge. This business, which is family run, has been established for over 25 years, and produces high quality home-made fudge and confectionery. The selection on offer will range from Baileys to Malteser, chocolate mint to good old traditional flavours  such as  vanilla and chocolate.

Sunnyfields fresh local food suppliers, known locally and now nationally for their superb organic vegetables, will also be offering biodegradable jute bags. These are strong over the shoulder bags, available in pink, brown and green and are becoming a bit of a fashion statement in the south, whilst also promoting green living.

Once you have made your delicious purchases you can use the free ‘shop and drop service’ provided in this New Forest Food Experience Area, offering chilled facilities to store your produce bought from here. This service leaves you to roam around the rest of the show knowing that your goods will still be as fresh as the place you bought them from when you leave.

The New Forest & Hampshire County Show will be held at New Park , Brockenhurst on the 24th, 25th and 26th  July.
