Gillian Hulse
Wednesday 28 November – Saturday 5 January
Gillian Hulse graduated from Camberwell School of Art with a degree in textile design. She later worked as an archaeological illustrator and began to illustrate children’s and educational books and for the BBC’s ‘Jackanory’ series. As a qualified teacher she taught for some years in primary and special schools in Kent before moving to the South West where she trained to work with kiln formed glass.
Gillian’s current glass work is inspired by land and seascapes. In this exhibition her vibrant fused glass panels reflect her passion for colour, light and texture and her love of story. Much of her work is pictorial, depicting night skies, fish in turquoise seas, and the landscape in its varied moods. Gillian also brings to Forest beautiful one off sculptural pieces as well as a mixture of glassware that has been produced for the home including bowls, dishes and coasters.

New Rope String Band
Saturday 12 January 8pm
The Old Ropes - practitioners of surreal wit and musical invention - elicited strong emotions in audiences. So much so that when founding member, Joe Scurfield, died, it shook people. But two of the Old Ropes, Pete Challoner and Tim Dalling, have joined forces with two equally amazing musicians, Jock Tyldesley and Vera van Heeringen, and as a four piece they are taking off from where the Old Ropes stopped with gusto.
They play hoedown, old-timey, up-beat, down-home music. All this is combined with bizarre physical nonsense and clowning about…. And singing…. And dancing! The visual delights and hilarity of the New Rope String Band should bring pleasure to absolutely anyone!

The Coal Porters
Saturday 19 January 8pm
Bluegrass at its best! Having sold out last time they came to Forest, and with repeated demands for their return, we thought now was perfect - to coincide with the imminent release of their new CD ‘Turn the Water on Boy’.
The Coal Porters’ music is sometimes pure country, sometimes old hillbilly, but always great guitar picking, strong vocals, and memorable songs. Exploring influences from The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons, Dylan and more, The Coal Porters is a band in the truest sense of the word - five members mixing intuitively, led in inimitable style by ex-Long Ryder and captivating character, Sid Griffin.

The Picture of Dorian Gray
Friday 25 January 7.30pm
European Arts Company has recently delighted sold out audiences with their Pinter double-bill and ‘Chekhov’s Shorts’. We had rave reviews from audience members and so are very pleased that they are returning with another witty classic in the form of ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’.
Adapted from the novel by Oscar Wilde, and fresh from a successful European tour, this show is highly physical and hugely inventive. A versatile cast of 5 actors tells the wicked story of Dorian Gray using only the objects found within an artist’s studio. Picture frames, paint pots, brushes, dust sheets, stepladders, trestles (and anything else that comes to hand!) are used to create the physical world of Victorian London.
Expect great ingenuity, a captivating play and much humour.
The Carolyn Mark Trio
Saturday 26 January 8pm
With the captivating Carolyn Mark herself on vocals and guitar, Diona Davis (from Po’Girl) on violin and vocals, and Paul Pigat on guitar and bass, this is a really fine trio.
Carolyn has just released her sixth album on Mint Records and is now touring for the first time in the UK. Blending Americana, country folk and roots, this is lyrical music that conjures up an evening spent playing instruments and singing songs on the back porch of the cabin. It’s all bound up with wit, a (sometimes dark) sense of humour, and a willingness to throw caution under the truck and have all the fun humanly possible!

The Future! Along the way they include wonderful renditions of songs by The Beatles, Ry Cooder, Iggy Pop, The Beach Boys, Joe Jackson and many more iconic grooves of our time. Their voices are pretty good too!
The Ben Waters Boogie Blues - 8 PIECE!

Tickets : £14. Concessions : £12. Supporters : £11.
Last December Ben and the boys were thrilled to have their last album nominated by Jools Holland in Mojo magazine as one of the ten best boogie woogie recordings ever made! They’ve been using Mr Holland’s recording studio for their next album which is released in early 2008.
One of the UK’s finest pianists, and a very humorous performer, Ben Waters is the man who barely in his early 20’s played with the likes of Mick Jagger, Pete Townsend, Shakin’ Stevens and the late Florida blues harp legend, Rock Bottom! The band mix boogie woogie and blues with a Dr John style New Orleans feel, and some good old time rock & roll.
Ben and his band always go down well, but this time we have an extra special treat - the EIGHT piece! YES eight rockin’ steamin’, boogie blues musicians on our Forest Arts stage. Book early as Ben draws the crowds!

As a title it says very little but interestingly implies many possibilities’. Forest welcomes three painters whose work reflects the exploration and discovery of their own connections with this theme. Some of their ideas overlap each other with many paintings having several layers of meaning, depending on how the viewer is prepared to interact with them. This exhibition has the potential to touch people and encourage them to find and experience their own ‘demons’ and expects to provoke a reaction from those who will be reminded of both good and bad, past and present experiences.

Nicholas Cobb
Including pieces from the series ‘Walking Down Rye Lane’
Wednesday 20 February - Saturday 29 March
Nicholas Cobb studied at St. Martin’s and Wimbledon School of Art and currently teaches art within the schools local to his home in Peckham, the mental health sector, and photography at Putney School of Art.
Nick has lived in Peckham for much of his adult life. It’s a cultural melting pot, a destination for migrants from every corner of the planet. Within it lies Rye Lane and included in this work are images capturing a year in the life of this ordinary south London street. This exhibition seeks to demonstrate the opportunities that present themselves woven into a narrative that depicts the insecurities of living in this neighbourhood.
Reconstructions made from the detritus of urban life - for example various receptacles like two-pint plastic milk bottles crudely shaped into figures- gives this exhibition originality on the depiction of urban culture within our rural environment. The viewer brings their sophisticated visual knowledge to bear upon familiar everyday scenes and gestures while simultaneously recognising the staged nature, the artifice, of the photographs.

Banjo, mandolin, fiddle, flute, ullian pipes and passionate vocals combine for a really uplifting and rich sound.
Barb Jungr Sings Bob Dylan TRIO
Friday 29 February 8pm
Tickets : £11. Concessions : £10. Supporters : £9.
One of the greatest musical icons of the twentieth century is Bob Dylan and Barb Jungr is fast becoming the definitive contemporary performer of his work. In 2005 the BBC hosted a Barbican concert to celebrate Bob’s 60th birthday and when introducing Barb Jungr, Billy Bragg described her as ‘possibly the best interpreter of Dylan’s songs’ (apart from Bob of course!)
You don’t have to like Bob (but I wish you would!) to love this show. The interpretations are so fresh and Barb so cleverly rescores the pieces that they invest whole new meaning into the words. Far from detracting from the originals, Barb’s songs are beautiful compositions in their own right.
Barb thrilled Forest with her Elvis songbook back in 2005. Performing now in trio format with keyboards, piano, percussion and accordion this promises to be a spine tingling evening. If you love good music, beautifully performed, that really means something, then do come along.

Love, loneliness, crisis and conflict play out as the pints are pulled and the night draws on and the exchanges get more barbed. From the writer of ‘The Rise and Fall of Little Voice’ this play is full of colourful characters juggling public façade and private emotion. Sharp, adult and entertaining theatre from one of the country’s best touring companies.

From Fats Waller, and Nat King Cole to Tom Wait’s ‘I wish I was in New Orleans’ ,Tipitina effortlessly mix jazz, blues and pop in the great traditions of Fats Domino, Dr John, The Neville Brothers and Jools Holland.
